—How to make paper from recycled materials—

Making paper by hand at home can be pretty simple. It is a great way to use old receipts and paper that you were about to throw in the recycling bin and create a beauty.

Materials you will need:

  • Water

  • Old paper

  • Container

  • A strainer

  • Towels

  • Sponge

STEP 1

Rip up your paper and soak it overnight. Play and experiment with different colours and thickness.

STEP 2

Blend it or dissolve it very small with your hands. Get the container and add water with the pulp you just made.

The more pulp to water, the thicker your paper will be.

STEP 3

For this you will need the strainer:

Stir your vat of pulp

Hold the strainer side up and horizontal

As you lift it out of the slurry, give it a quick shake, making a uniform sheet

Let the water drain to a drip

STEP 4

It is time to transfer the wet sheet from the strainer to an absorbent surface.

In one smooth motion, place the strainer face down onto the towel.

STEP 5

With a sponge, press gently on the freshly sheet, getting all the water out.

STEP 6

Find a flat surface and take your wet sheet and gently press onto the flat surface.

Let the paper dry for 1-3 days
